| Fire Investigation is the intensive
study of fire and its effects and is often done to determine the origin of
a fire and the cause of a fire. Fire investigation may be done to assess
responsibility, both from a criminal and civil perspective. |
| |
| Fire Origin is the point, location or
area where a fire has begun. It is generally best to determine the fire
origin before determining cause. This is because many potential causes may
exist in a particular building or vehicle but it is only those causes
located in the area of origin which need to be considered. |
| |
| Fire Cause is the circumstances or
agencies which have brought together the elements necessary for a fire to
start. The are four different types of fire causes: |
| |
- Accidental
- Natural
- Incendiary
- Unknown.
|
| Assess Responsibility: the factors and reasons which
brought together the elements necessary for a fire need to be evaluated
when assessing responsibility.
