Kathryn C. Smith (nee Kennedy)
is a professional fire and explosion investigator and analyst and has been a staff expert with John A. Kennedy
and Associates, Inc. since 2002. Over this time period, Kathryn Smith has been engaged to investigate and
analyze fire and explosion incidents all over the United States, including the 2001 River Cities Warehouse fire
in Davenport, Iowa (the largest fire in the United States that year, excluding the 9/11 attack) and the 2002
Chateau du Triomphe house fire in Dallas, Texas (the largest residential house fire in history). Kathryn Smith
is a skilled fire and explosion scene investigator, evidence collection and handling technician, published fire
researcher, codes and standards specialist, and skilled forensic fire science and technology laboratory technician.
Kathryn Smith currently holds a number of national and international professional certifications including: Certified
Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Fire Investigation Instructor, and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator.
She serves as Mr. Kennedy's alternate on the NFPA 921 Committee.
Richard J. Meier, CFEI, CFII

Richard J. Meier has been a staff expert with John A. Kennedy and Associates, Inc. since October, 2011. Richard Meier currently holds a number of national and international professional certifications including: Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Fire Investigation Instructor. Richard completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in May of 1995. Course work included Advanced Mathematics, Computer Programing, Production Machinery & Processes, Mechanical Design, Fluid Power, Chemistry, Physics, Electronics, Statics, Dynamics, Material Science, and Thermodynamics. Prior to his start with John A. Kennedy and Associates, Inc., Richard Meier spent 24 years as a mechanical and manufacturing engineer designing and building a diverse range of products and equipment. During this time, he gained broad and diverse knowledge in plastics, metals, mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulic and fuel systems, marine, automotive and industrial systems.

With over thirty years of fire and explosion investigation experience in law enforcement, the insurance industry and the private sector, Daniel Churchward now serves as the John A. Kennedy and Associates consulting Electrical Engineer. Daniel Churchward has recently completed a ten-year term as the chairman of the NFPA 921 committee.

Joining many years of experience as a professional fire fighter, a retired university professor of fire and safety engineering technology, a fire and explosion investigator and a master's degree in vocational and technical education, Ronald Hopkins provides unique insight and expertise to John A. Kennedy and Associates. Ronald Hopkins is a member of the NFPA 921 committee and the Director and former Chairman of the NFPA's Fire Science and Technology Educator's Section.
Gregory E. Gorbett, CFEI, IAAI-CFI, CFPS,

Awarded a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Forensic Science and a second in Fire Science, Gregory Gorbett is a skilled fire and explosion scene investigator, a university professor of fire and safety engineering technology, evidence collection and handling technician, published fire researcher, codes and standards specialist, and skilled forensic fire science and technology laboratory technician. He carries the designation of a nationally Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Fire Investigation Instructor and nationally Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator. He is educated and well versed in using computer fire modeling programs for fire analysis. He also has experience in fire suppression and fire service activities.
Cam Cope, CFEI, CVFI
Associate Expert, Fire and Explosion Analysis Expert
Cam Cope is an internationally known fire, arson and explosion investigator, and a expert in the investigation of vehicle related injuries and defects. His principle work involves consultation and research in vehicle crash-worthiness systems. He brings more than fifteen years of experience in the fire and explosion engineering and legal fields to John A. Kennedy and Associates.
